The Microbe Moment is science stories and news for the microbe enthused hosted by microbe lover, Tess Deyett, Ph.D. and pharmaceutical microbiologist Jon Mitchell. In this microbiology focused podcast, we will give you exciting stories, horrid histories, and the most up-to-date news all through a microbial lens. We will even interview our friends and heroes, diving into their own microbial journey. Tess, Ph.D. was changed forever with her first glimpse into the unseen world. At her first microbiology class, she was instantly hooked, love at first sight. She went on to receive a Ph.D. from the University of California Riverside in agricultural microbiology. Microbigal Jon has had many microbe moments throughout his 3 degrees in health care and microbiology. Currently working for a pharmaceutical company, he is fascinated by medical microbiology and using beneficial microbes to fight pathogens and disease. Together they aim to show the world everyone has a microbe moment, a unique moment where microbes changed each person’s life for the better. With a little background in the microbial world, anyone can find their microbe moment. Come discover yours!

Microbigals are finishing up our series of the microbiome by bringing you a gut microbiome DaBOM. Tess, Julie, and Jon bring you articles on how the gut microbiome affect the bodies response to cancerous cells, how certain diet and feeding patterns affect the gut microbiome composition, and how administering a bacteria in mice positively affects obesity and type II diabetes. They also bring some industry news including self replicating ribosomes and a microbiome product filing for licensing. check out the links below.

Tuesday Aug 23, 2022
Tuesday Aug 23, 2022
In this weeks episode, Tess, Julie, and Jon continue their journey learning about their personal microbiome by talking about their experiences with the company Zoe. In their experiences they talk about a 2 week blood sugar and fat study, which people can sign up for through Zoe. In addition they talk how Zoe uses these results along with age, sex, and medical history to give a point system to food, with the higher the value the better. This is part food of Zoe's app which also provided things like courses and food journaling similar to Noom. Lastly, they talk about what their microbiome composition was, how did it affect their health, and which company would they go with for microbiome testing.
